Orlando’s weather can be fickle, rainy, storming, and minutes later, sunshine. The morning sky carried that same promise today. Barbara, Marcy, and I had assumed the rain would shorten our morning ministry. Yet, we were compelled to follow God’s leading. S
Orange Blossom Trail, “The Trail,” as the locals know it, is our usual destination. Homeless camps in the area are plentiful and we have established somewhat of a presence in this area. We often see some of the same people, but our encounters today were different.
Two girls and one man approached us. Their demeanor was sadly recognizable-worn out, dirty, tired, and incredibly sad. I am not judging them. It simply reminds me of how lost they are; real people, lost and so in need of God’s love. This is just in Orlando and I do think of the countless others across our country.
Amy, one of the girls, was extremely upset. She said her best friend had recently been shot and died in her arms! Her story continued with even more horrific information. She stated the shooter had meant to harm Amy, not her friend.
Their stories are real. The evil is real. The streets are dangerous and a young life has been taken. Some people may say, “well that is the life she chose.” Yes sometimes, but more often, they simply do not know how to escape this evil lifestyle. The ministry of The Pillow Project offers hope through Jesus Christ. Everlasting hope to heal and deliver each of them by accepting His grace and love.
George and Lynn are in our prayers too (photo above). We met them several months ago holding a sign 10 hours a day in front of a store, in order to attract customers. This provides their income. Today we noticed George and Lynn were no longer there, so I went inside the store to inquire as to their whereabouts. Recently the store came under new ownership. The new owners say they have no need for the sign and no need for George and Lynn, because the sign only attracted more homeless people. How we would love to know where they are at!
Each person has a story and so do we. God has a plan for each of us. God has a plan for Amy, George, and Lynn. Please pray for us to remain faithful. Please pray for Amy, George, and Lynn to accept the free gift of His salvation - the shelter of His love.
Addendum:
Cathieann has given me the privilege of editing some of her writings. I find this to be a great blessing. This blog entry brings to my mind Hebrews 13:20-21. “…The Good Shepherd of the sheep, will equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ…”
