Hello! Today Barbara, Jim and I met to deliver pillows. We felt the Lord’s leading to begin by the small grocery store known by so many of the homeless. Several people were there when we arrived, including Lee.
Lee remembered Barbara and I from our visit in April. We had given him a pillow and he commented he still has the pillow. We met several others from our past visit as well. Once again we shared with each God’s love, care, and hope. As we were leaving the store’s parking area I glanced up and yelled, “stop the car, pull over, pull in!” As the car was leaving I saw Christina and my heart sank and I wanted to cry.
Several people have been searching for Christina; many assumed she could possibly be dead. Every search for her had been unsuccessful. She was simply missing. Christina seemed happy to see us and said she needed help with clothing. We took her to the 2nd Chance Thrift Store, sponsored by First Baptist Church of Orlando. She was truly excited to receive the clothing. She had nothing but the clothes on her back! Leaving Christina was difficult. She said she wanted help. I provided her with my telephone number and asked her to keep in touch. I assured her there was help available but she must be willing to take the first step.
Christina has not called since our encounter. I have tried to reach her through several means, but no response has been received.
The day was bittersweet. Meeting Christina and Lee again brought back so many memories of where I had once walked. I know the struggles they face, the addictions, the shame, and the feelings of hopelessness. How grateful to know the One who can heal the hurt and heal the sadness. Please pray that Christina and Lee receive this healing love. Oh, how He loves them!
I encourage each of you to come join me on a pillow walk. Taking with these people gives such insight into what it really means to be homeless. Each day I give thanks for our Lord’s deliverance to me.
Love and prayers,
