Connie - 12/2025

Nancy and Connie

We've been seeing Connie a lot lately.  Having discovered that she lives on the streets within a 4-5 block area, we can usually find her.  We started the ministry in April of 2014 and she was the very first homeless person I ever saw or spoke to.  I never ask her what her background is, or why she lives on the streets.  I just do my best to love her.

I gave Connie my phone number back in October.  I've never done that before but I was trying to help her get some real glasses (not just readers!).  I told her the offer stands open, and here is my number...she told me she couldn't get her eyes checked because shse would not leave her dog.  I can understand that, the dog is all she has other than her earthly possessions.

We took her some special Christmas goodies, including cookies, coloring books, markers and a photo album from our 12 years of knowing each other.  She loves anything with butterflies on it.   The gifts made her so happy!

One day in December, while I was shopping, my phone rang and it was Connie.  She wanted to thank me for the things we gave her.  Then she shared something with me that really blessed me.  She said she had been talking to her estranged son in the past year.  Then she said, "Miss Barbara, my son called and he asked me if I would go to church with him for Christmas.  I told him that would be the very best Christmas present I ever got in my entire life.  So I'm going to church for Christmas."

We're going back to see the homeless people this week and I'm hoping to hear from Connie that she did get to go to church.  I know that the only hope in this crazy world is the Lord Jesus Christ.  I'll find out on Tuesday if Jesus filled her with new hope.

We continue to go and be obedient, knowing that we cannot solve the homeless problem but we can be the hands and feet of Jesus.  What an honor.

In Christ,

Barbara

And satisfy the desire of the afflicted,

Then your light will rise in darkness,
And your gloom will bec
